English Book Recommendations: The Paper Bag Princess

The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Michael Martchenko

Summary

Princess Elizabeth is going to marry perfect Prince Ronald. But suddenly, a big dragon comes, burns her castle down, and kidnaps her prince. All of her clothes are burned too, so Elizabeth puts on a paper bag and goes to rescue Ronald from the dragon.

Why should you read it?

The sentences in the book are simple enough for English beginners. It will also introduce you to a few relative clauses and some new vocabulary. The book is illustrated, so you can use the pictures to help you with new words.

More about the author

Robert Munsch is a well-loved children’s author, and very famous in Canada. He is known especially for his story-telling. When he tells stories to children, he uses special expressions and voices and is very interesting to watch.

Michael Martchenko is a Canadian illustrator and has illustrated many of Munsch’s books.
